R.R. Station, Lacona, N.Y. 31
Image of a rural railroad station standing beside two sets of tracks on the edge of a quiet residential neighborhood. The Lacona passenger station, located on the New York Central line near Lake Erie, was built in 1891 by the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad. A couple of freight cars and the freight house is visible just beyond, as well as various signal structures and telegraph poles. The station is a standard but picturesque gable-roofed passenger depot with large overhangs supported by arched braces. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This image is part of a series made by one of the three Eastern Illustrating & Publishing Company photographers assigned to New England or upstate New York. The glass plates would be sent back to Belfast, Maine, and processed into postcards at the printing plant on High Street.
