P.O. W. Newfield ME. 94.
Scene of two large clapboard buildings at a dirt crossroads on a quiet summer day. At the left is a house; closely adjacent is the West Newfield Post Office. The building is set back from the street and has a front porch. Two boys stand on the near coner of the porch, staring out at the Eastern photographer, who is shooting from about 75' away. A farmer standing in a crudely built wagon attached to a team of horses waits at the right while the picture is taken. It was not unusual for the Eastern photographers to direct their subjects while taking these postcard images. Small town post offices also often doubled as convenience stores and housed the local Bell Telephone Office. Hence, the signs: "Bell Telephone, Arm & Hammer Soda, Pratt's Animal Regulator/Horses Cows Hogs/ Reed B".
