Boarding House Sheridan ME. 114
Image of a group of men and boys posing in front of a frame building next to a large drilling apparatus in an open landscape. Located on the Aroostook River, Sheridan was the site of an important lumber mill "owned by the Ashland Mill Company (Stetson, Cutler and Redman)...The mill was...sold to Fraser, a Canadian (paper) company, then still later transferred to Great Northern Paper, The lumber produced by the mill was marketed as far away as Europe...(it) closed in 1921." [Maine Memory Network]. This all-male group is likely mill workers and lumbermen who worked seasonally or for a time at the site. The Ashland Mill Company would have provided the boarding house for the hired men.
