Gibb's Duck and Deer Camps---Richmond, Maine E103C
Gibb's Duck and Deer Camps---Richmond, Maine E103C Image shows two men in a punt and duck decoys floating in the water nearby. The duck hunters, who are holding dead birds which they have just retrieved, are likely posed. The fellow in the stern holds a steering oar. The hull of the punt is fitted with camouflaging roping. Beginning in the 1880s, the pursuit of fishing and hunting as popular recreation lead to the Maine tradition of the sporting camp in a remote wilderness setting. This is probably the Kennebec River.
