Engineering Building - University of Maine, Orono, Maine B90

Image of Boardman Hall (the Engineering Building), a plain, three-story brick building with a flat roof, on a flat, open site. Such a large structure dedicated to the instruction of Engineering reflects the country's new, post-war focus on the importance of the Technology field. The building with the cupola visible at the far right is Stevens Hall (built in 1924). Originally called the Arts and Sciences building, it was renamed in honor of James A. Stevens, the first dean of the College of Arts and Sciences in 1905. Built in 1949, Boardman Hall is home to the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department (Basement, First and Third Floors). The beautiful brick building sits at the East entrance of the University Mall, has undergone an expansion, and has a total of 10 recently renovated laboratories dedicated to the curriculum. It also hosts computer labs, “The CHEZ” student room, many classrooms, and all faculty/staff offices. The building was named after Mr. Harold S. Boardman, a Bangor native that received his degree in Civil engineering in 1895 and proceeded to teach at UMaine in 1901. He was very devoted to the university, eventually serving as UMaine’s seventh president from 1926 to 1934. https://civil.umaine.edu/facilities/boardman-hall/
