The Seaside House was one of many such home-like inns located near the Kennebunk Beach shoreline serving the tourist trade on Maine's southern coast since becoming a family vacation destination beginning in the 1870s. Kennebunk was popular for its sandy beaches, quaint town center, and relative proximity to Boston and lower New England via train and automobile.
