Town Hall, Ayer, Mass. 37.

Image of the front of the high Victorian Gothic brick city hall in Ayer, Massachusetts, facing a railroad line in the foreground. A well-labeled Sherwin Williams Paint and Wallpaper outlet housed in a large frame building stands across a side street. The construction of the Ayer Town Hall in 1873-76 was made possible by a gift from Dr. James Cook Ayer, who made a fortune manufacturing patent medicines and textiles in nearby Lowell during the industrial revolution. The town was also named for him when it was incorporated just a few years earlier, in 1871.
