A view of one of the two monuments erected to mark true north to commorate Fryeburg native and North Pole discovere, Robert E. Peary. The monument states on the plaque: "Fifty and Four Hundred feet north lie stones erected in 1863 by Admiral Robert E. Peary, Discoverer of the North Pole. A former Fryeburg resident, these two meridian stones indicate the true north and thus enable surveyors to obtain the magnetic variation." Lovewell Pond sits in the background. A car can be seen behind the trees.
