View of a small town center and railroad crossing from the curve of an unpaved road. A few modest late-19th century commercial blocks stand at the quiet intersection, with contemporaneous residences visible farther down the block at the left. This image is part of a series made by one of the three Eastern Illustrating & Publishing Company photographers assigned to New England or upstate New York. The glass plates would be sent back to Belfast, Maine, and processed into postcards at the printing plant on High Street. Visible are shopfronts bearing the sign "Real Estate", and "W.E. Ozard". A railroad crossing warning sign is at the far right. Newfane is located just inland of Lake Ontario in northwestern NY state.
