Congregational Church - Rumford Point, Maine B240

Seen through trees in dappled light, this image shows the Congregational Church at Rumford Point, Maine. The small, frame church seems to emerge from a bucolic wooded setting. The simple frame rural church was built in 1865 near the Androscoggin River. It is known for its rare, interior frescoes painted by life-long Rumford resident and itinerant artist Jonathan Adams Bartlett (1817-1902). Despite being a local, Bartlett is known for his accomplished work in the folk tradition. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
