Rumford Point is a village in Rumford, Maine, across the Androscoggin River from another village, Rumford Corner. A ferry operated near this location until a steel bridge was built to take its place in 1955 (in all likelihood, this photo was taken some 20 years before then). It's possible this view shows the western tip of the point, at right. The river (known colloquially as the "Scrog") historically turned saw- and gristmills in the nearby town of Rumford, and since the late 19th century has been the power source for paper mills.
