Image of Main Street in dowtown Saco showing a broad street lined with two and three-story commercial buildings from various periods and 1950s-era automobiles. One of the businesses is Howie's Hardware, on the right, housed in a converted early 19th century structure, and, like other buildings in the image, clad with a modern siding fabricated to look like stone. At the right, in the gabled building, is the State Restaurant. The multi-story brick Masonic Block, visible just to the left of center in the distance, was built in 1907 to house a bank, stores, and offices. Characterized by its tall, imposing, arched windows, the block was designed by the architect Penn Varney in the Renaissance Revival style.
