Kiwanis Swimming Pool, Manson Park, Pittsfield, Maine N61C
A view of the Kiwanis swimming pool at Manson Park. Pittsfield’s pool facilities were built through community donations in 1953. The large pool is surrounded by a chainlink fence. Life gaurd chairs are featured on either side of the pool. A wooden bench sits outside of the fence and there appears to be a large stone with a memorial plaque on it. Mary Ann Lancey Manson Park is located adjacent to Pittsfield's central business district. The park contains land on both sides of the Sebasticook River just south of the industrialized zone. Most of the park was donated to the Town by John W. Manson, a prestigious Pittsfield lawyer and businessman, and named for his mother, a member of the prominent family who ran the distinguished Lancey House Hotel. According to the Town of Pittsfield website, The most used section of Manson Park is the swimming pool complex adjacent to Lancey Street, although the pool is not technically considered part of the park. The pool in the photo was replaced in 2009.
