The Milk Plant, Conewango Valley, N.Y. 39

View of horse-drawn wagons pulling up to a gambrel-roofed building located on railroad tracks. The scene shows farmers driving horse drawn wagonloads of milk up to the building, a milk plant in far western New York state, where the product likely was kept cold and shipped by rail to Buffalo and Pittsburgh. This is part of a series of images made by one of the three Eastern Illustrating & Publishing Company photographers assigned to New England or upstate New York. The glass plates would be sent back to Belfast, Maine, and processed into postcards at the printing plant on High Street.
