N.Y.C. Station, Bergen, N.Y. 88.
A passenger station stands beside four sets of railroad tracks that converge in the distance. On either side, lines of utility poles create a pattern against the sky. This is one of a series of images made in upstate New York state by one of the three Eastern Illustrating & Publishing Company photographers assigned to New England or New York state. The glass plates would be sent back to Belfast, Maine, and processed into postcards at the printing plant on High Street. The Eastern photographer has walked out amongst the tracks for a visually compelling composition. The rails lead the viewer's eye quickly into the distance, as if on a train moving past the station at a good speed. Bergen, southeast of Rochester, is on the New York Central Railroad and Hudson River lines.
