Everleth's Place, Main St., Putney, VT. 219.
Scene of a small, one-story gabled building housing an informal restaurant and ice cream parlor on a street in the early period of regular motor traffic. Two gasoline pumps stand near the front corner of the structure, at the street. Next door is a house with a front porch, where a man in a white jacket stands looking out. Another man sits on the edge of the porch. Trees in the middle of the street mark a fork or a median strip in the road. The view is a summer day in a quiet village, made vivid by the plethora of small signs meant to attract the attention of the passing motorist: "Ice Cream, Ice Cream Sundaes, Lunches, Home Cooking, Tourist Novelties, Hot Dogs with Steamed Rolls, Maple Grove Candies." A blackboard announces "Special Today": Creamed Chicken on Toast" and "Salads". A metal sign put out on a patch of grass in the middle of the street alerts motorists to the "Ice Cream Parlor" inside. Wooden boxes containing fresh produce are displayed on a table on the front porch.
