Image of the Yardarm Motel in Searsport. The motel is one of many such establishments which sprung up along Route 1 during the mid-20th century. The Victorian house at the right is likely the home of the motel's first property owners and developers, who, like earlier residents, seized upon the increasing motor summer traffic en route to Acadia by offering simple roadside motel lodging.
