This view gives a good idea of the waterfront context. The annual event, held during the first weekend in August, was begun in the sumer of 1947 to bring attention to the lobster industry. As a non-profit organization it has raised money over the years for various regional community projects and institutions.The Festival has helped bring national and international recognition to the midcoast for its singular and practically unique product.
