With its mid-century mod cars, gas pump, and telephone booth, this image of Place's General Store and gas station is a 1960s period piece. Signs advertise "Italians, Groceries, Meats, Lunch, Drugs, Fishing Tackle, Films, Souvenirs, Hardware". The location is unknown. If the road it was located on became a fairly well-traveled route, the 19th-century general store, often became a node of 20th century convenience, offering motorists an array of products and services. The modern equivalent is the now ubiquitous convenience store/gas station.
