Image of St. Lawrence Church and the adjacent Parish Hall, built in 1897, in Portland, Maine. The complex, located on Munjoy Hill, was designed by New York City architect Arthur Jennings in 1897. The complex, distinguished by its wood and stone Richardsonian Romanesque scaling, massing and details, was unusual for its double-layer shell. Owing to years of dwindling congregations, the church building was dismantled in 2009, while the parish hall was retained and converted into a performing arts center.
