Races Motor Court, Wiscasset, Maine. Located on Route 1 in North Edgecomb, Race's was typical of many such small "motor court" lodging areas that sprung up along tourists routes during the mid 20th century. The idea was to capture automobile traffic bound for points farther up or father down east. Races may have gotten its name when the nearby Wiscasset Speedway was built in 1969. The roadside establishment offered Esso gas as well as a Coke machine and cabins, and was featured in a published postcard.
