Color postcard of the Blockhouse at what was once Fort Halifax in Winslow, Maine. When constructed by the English in 1754, the complex was the northernmost outpost of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Its purpose was to defend the Upper Kennebec River Vallly from possible attack by the French and their Native American allies. The Blockhouse, rebuilt to historically accurate specifications, is the only remnant of the complex.
