Color transparency of the Veterans Memorial Bridge that carries Route 1 over the Passagassawaukeag River in Belfast. Maine, taken shortly after the bridge opened in 1962. It was built to accomodate the Route 1 Bypass, which rerouted Route 1 through traffic away from the center of Belfast. Previously Route 1 ran through the city center and carried vehicles over the river on the bridge at the foot of High Street. The former Route 1 bridge reopened in 2006 as a footbridge, which is at one end of the Harbor Walk.
