Waldo County Fair, Sept. 1902 This is a view of the Belfast Fairgrounds in 1902 during a harness racing event. The fairgrounds was the scene of one of the state's premier agricultural fairs for many years. The track was used for the well-attended spectacle of stock car racing from 1920 until 1953 when the racing oval became the Belfast Drive-In Theater. Among the more serious transgressors of the early 20th century was Mrs. L. P. "Phemie" Moore was arrested in 1917 for setting fire to buildings at the Belfast Fairgrounds. A series of fires over a number of years had destroyed nearly all the buildings at the fairgrounds. Moore was also suspected of burning the Emery School House.
