Calais Street Railway, Calais Maine 57a; Old Name: St. Croix Club, Calais Maine 64a

"Calais Street Railway, Calais Maine 57a; Old Name: St. Croix Club, Calais Maine 64a" View of the St. Croix Club and Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F) Hall at the corner of Main and North Streets in Calais, Maine in 1909 for the Calais Centennial celebration. The building is festooned with abundant bunting for that celebration. Note the banner welcoming Odd Fellows, presumably from other towns, as part of the aforementioned celebration. The electric trolleys which ran on both North Street and Main Street in front of the St. Croix / I.O.O.F began service on July 4, 1894. The building also, at one time, was the home of the Calais National Bank. The bank printed $1,360,540 dollars-worth of national currency. This national bank opened in 1865 and stopped printing money in 1934, which equals a 70 year printing period. That is a long operational period for a national bank. During its life, The Calais National Bank of Calais issued 11 different types and denominations of national currency.
