Shore Road Sargentville Me. 17.

"Shore Road Sargentville Me. 17." "Shore Road, still unpaved, runs from the center of Sargentville down to the Wharf, which was the scene of much activity and business in the days of sail and steam. Behind the viewer are Reach Road and building shown in the Main Street view of this series. Several of the buildings and houses were used as hostels during the high era of Summer People. The owners, hearing the steamboat signalling arrival, would race each other to the Wharf to be first inline to receive vacationeers. So goes the local lore, which is surely reliable in this instance. Today the buildings on the Eggemoggin Reach end of Shore Road (ahead of the viewer)are private residences." David Anderson, Sedgwick Brooklin Historical Society
