[included in the exhibit "Hancock County Through Eastern's Eye"] LB2007.1.111767 Seaside Inn, Seal Harbor, ME. 10K. The Seaside Inn was originally a private residence, which was enlarged to accommodate guests and called the Seaside House. In 1881 the proprietors were J. Clements and Sons. A 3 ½-story annex was added in 1882. In 1892 the new Queen Anne style Seaside Inn, designed and built by John E. Clark, was completed with the annex incorporated into the building; the house was moved elsewhere. It was run by brothers James and Amos Clement. Facilities included a livery stable, located behind and slightly west of the inn, and two detached guest cottages toward the beach. (One of these cottages remains.) Guests at the Seaside Inn could walk the old Seaside Path through beautiful woodlands along Stanley Brook all the way to the Jordan Pond House for tea and popovers. The Seaside Inn was torn down in 1964. Credit: Willie Granston and Anne Stebbins Funderburk
