Carver Memorial Library, Searsport, Maine 331
Built in 1909, the library was bequeathed as a memorial with funds from the estate of Searsport ship Captain George A. Carver. It was dedicated on October 13, 1910. Designed by the architectural firm McLean & Wright, the structure is a strong example of the Arts & Crafts design applied to architecture. Laid up with stones from the Carver Farm (now Moose Point State Park), the building exhibits such picturesque elements as battered (canted) corners, giving it a bold, plastic profile, subtle curves and arches, and fanciful half-timbering in the eaves. This image gives a detailed view of the half-timbering and carved profile on the front gable's eaves, the standing lamps, and the stonework. The Library was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
