Searsport, Maine 323
This view is taken from the Mill Stream crossing sighting east up Main Street. A forest of new telephone poles, still looking like tree trunks, screens the Victorian facade of the Searsport House on the right, and the plain brick fronts of the Whitcomb Block in the distance. A wooden sidewalk runs along the south side of the street, enabling pedestrian access from the west side residential neighborhood behind the photographer. The presence of new telephone poles indicates the picture was taken soon after 1900, when service was installed.
