Two boys make their way down Water Street on a warm summer afternoon in the shade of continuous lines of trees. Modest, mid-19th century houses flank the street. Several have front porches. As seen in many of such images taken in residential areas, comfortable lounging has been arranged on the porch, at the left, in the form of a cot and pillow. The street, of course, is still unpaved, and there are no cars.
