Searsport, Maine 185
This image shows a section of Main Street where it bends just east of the brick commercial blocks in the center of town. Early and mid-19th century houses flank the dirt street beneath rows of elm trees. On the right, two buggies, one with two men seated in it, are parked in front of the Soldier's Monument. The memorial obelisk, built sometime after town funds were dedicated in 1870, has recently been moved from its original site on a triangle of land on the north side of Main St at the corner of Mt Ephraim and Goodelll Streets, to a site in front of the Masons and Odd Fellow's Hall (obscured by the house on the right), which had a Civil War memorial room on the first floor.
