Greenfinch Cabins
The view is of a cluster of tourist cabins located on the north side of Route 1 east of Searsport known as Greefinch Cabins, formally Primrose Farms. People are posed sitting on the tiny front porches and out on lawn chairs in the shade. According to a 1930s business card, which advertised "Electric Heat" and Hot Water", the Greenfinch Cabins were owned by W.T. Finch and E.B. Greenlaw. A map on the back of the card locates the cabins halfway (at about the 9 mile point) between Belfast and the Waldo Hancock Bridge. Overnights or longer stays at "housekeeping cabins" along Route 1 and other scenic highways became an affordable lodging option for families with the increase in automobile vacations. The property includes an older farmhouse, which would have been out of the picture to the right, called "Primrose Farms."
