The Greenfinch Cabins property in Searsport
"Greenfinch Farm" This image shows part of the Greenfinch Cabins property, a tourist lodging on Route 1 in Searsport. According to a 1930s business card, which advertised "Electric Heat" and Hot Water", the Greenfinch Cabins were owned by W.T. Finch and E.B. Greenlaw. A map on the back of the card locates the cabins halfway (at about the 9 mile point) between Belfast and the Waldo Hancock Bridge. Overnights or longer stays at "housekeeping cabins" along Route 1 and other scenic highways became an affordable lodging option for families with the increase in automobile vacations. The property included an older farmhouse, visible at the right, called "Primrose Farms."
