Littlefield's Mill, Searsport, Maine 1 ( Cook Photo)

This image is of a large, later-19th century lumber mill situated on the shoreline. A man drives a horse hauling a wagon in the foreground. Littlefield's Mill was in Mariner's Hollow, the industrial section of Searsport. During the 2nd and 3rd quarters of the 19th century it was the site of ship yards and their ancillary industries, such as steam sheds, iron foundries, oakum shops, a sail loft and cooper shops. This image was taken after the demise of wooden shipbuilding here.
