Memorial Tablet, Mosman's Park, Searsport, Me ( Cook Photo)
A view of the memorial stone with Penobscot Bay and Sears Island in the background. The bronze plaque reads: "Mosman Memorial Park Dedicated to the Men of Searsport Who Served in the World War 1914-1918 Given by the Sons and Daughters of the Town" The stone is from the Swan Lake area. The park is named for the town's first doctor, Nahum Mosman. Mosman arrived in Searsport in 1804 from Sudbury MA and in 1809 purchased a large piece of land between Main Street and the shoreline, part of which he later made available to the public for recreation. In 1922 a descendant, Claribel Mosman, sold 4 acres called the "Mosman Grove" which was later acquired by the Mosman Park Association as a memorial park dedicated to the soldiers of the First World War.
