"The Mooring Camping Ground, Belfast, Me Route 1" Belfast, Maine, Mooring, Camping, Route 1 Fred and Florence Bastien moved to Belfast from Massachusetts in 1946 and opened a restaurant and the campground on Searsport Avenue in Belfast. The Bastiens operated the campground until 1977. The campground saw visitors from all over the country. The author, Clinton Twiss spent much of one summer writing his novel, "The Long, Long Trailer" which included a section on his stay in Belfast. Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz starred in the 1954 movie based upon his novel. The vehicles in this photo are typical of the 1930s.
