Belfast, Maine, Harbor, Sea, Ocean, Ship, Boat This view of the Belfast waterfront isw probably from the Memorial (Lower) Bridge. One can see a barge and one of Belfast's sardine boats tied up at the far end just past Arkady Feeds. Arcady Farms Feeds of Chicago supplied chicken feed to the local farms growing chickens for the poultry processing plants in town. Arcady Farms bought Penobscot Poultry from Wendell MacLeod in 1950. Soon after, Arcady sales rep. Al Savitz took over the operation and built the new processing plant in 1956. He sold the company to Corn Products in 1963 but bought it back in 1969 with partner Bernie Lewis. After the death of Al Savitz shortly after the purchase, the Lewis Family ran the company until it closed permanently in 1987. Another of the sardine boats can be seen heading out to Penobscot Bay. Also can be seen a private boat "Betty Cee" of Belfast.
