The businesses in this photo (left to right) are City National Bank, the IGA grocery store, City Drug (the local Rexall Drug Store), Fernald's Department Store featuring garments, dry goods and novelties with Sibyl's Beauty Salon and the Women's Millinery Exchange operated by Mrs. B. F. Wells upstairs and the M. A. Cook Photo Studio on the third floor. Next is Fred D. Jones & Sons, purveyors of appliances, wallpaper, Moore's paints & varnishes, toys, Kodak films-developing-printing-enlarging. To the right is W. G. Stover's Jewelry Store with the Ann - Lorraine Beauty Parlor upstairs. The February 1952 nor'easter was a significant winter storm that impacted the New England region of the United States. The storm ranked as Category 1, or "notable", on the Northeast Snowfall Impact Scale. Its rapid intensification resulted in heavy snowfall between February 17 and 18, accumulating to 12 to 30 inches. High winds also affected central and northern New England. The nor'easter is estimated to have caused 42 fatalities. In Maine, over 1,000 travelers became stranded on roadways.
