View of Cutler, Maine

Looking across a boat-filled Cutler Harbor. Cutler's scenic harbor and town were popular with yacht captains, judging by the motor yacht and the steam yacht in the background, both of a size to need professional crew. Middle of the photo has three sloop boats, aka Friendship sloops use for lobster and inshore fishing. The one on the left has a dory astern, and looks like it might have recently been underway as the sails look temporarily furled. The foreground shows two motor launches and a dory; these were likely all used for fishing, but the nearest motor launch really looks like it is well worked. Those motor launches are the craft which evolved into today's lobster boats.
