Entering Town -- Kennebunk, Maine B134
Entering town - Kennebunk, Maine In this view one can the Kesslen Shoe Co. building (the large brick building on the left at the foot of the hill) with a "Welcome to Kennebunk" sign between the second and third floor windows. In 1927, a businessman from Haverhill, Massachusetts, looked north for expansion. Harry Kesslen, the successful owner of the Kesslen Shoe Company, wanted to relocate a significant part of his operation to Kennebunk. After the loss of the Kennebunk Shoe Company to the Fire of 1903, the town’s shoemaking industry had vanished overnight, but Kesslen came in with a vision for its resurrection and, more importantly, a location for its start: the Goodall building. On the right is the Colonial Esso (now Exxon) dealer featuring Really Clean rest rooms. To its right, in the trees, is a sign advertising Jones Diner. Further, on the right, is Henris Restaurant.
