View of the broad, paved Maine Street at the corner of Pleasant Street, Brunswick, Maine c. 1940s. Brunswick has one of Maine’s broadest main streets. At the corner of Pleasant Street is the Lemont Block built in1870. The clock tower belongs to the 1883-84 brick Queen Anne style town hall, which was designed by Francis H. Fassett and John Calvin Stevens of Portland. This grand civic building was destroyed in the 1960s. Smaller businesses in converted older houses, as well as a Texaco station can be seen on the right. 1940s and 1950s-era automobiles are angle-parked along the curb. Mature elm trees, directional signs, and commercial signs are also visible.
