ALICE
1875 - (COPY NEG 1896) - ALICE, built at Kittery, Me. in 1875 by Howard I. Chappelle - an Isle of Shoals type boat. See photo envelope for more detailed information. Same boats built from Gloucester to Kittery & to Amesbury, Ma. . Out of fashion in 1906 when gasoline engines became common. The end of these Shoal boats was hastened when one was overloaded & capsized in a thunderstorm in the 1890's.
