Whaling Nova Scotia

The 200 ft. whaling ship THORARINN sits at anchor in New Harbor, Blandford, Nova Scotia. On September 28, 1970, it delivered seven whale carcasses to the Karl Karlsen & Co., Ltd., processing plant. Whale carcasses can be seen tied to the starboard side of the ship. The plant produced whale meat for Japan and whale oil, bone meal, animal feed, and fertilizer for markets in Europe and North America. In this photo a small skiff approaches the ship. It will tow the carcasses, one at a time, to shore.
