On a rainy day in September 1970 men were cutting up a whale carcass outside the Karl Karlsen & Co., Ltd., factory at Blanford, Nova Scotia. In one hour they could strip a whale carcass. In the plant they made bone meal, marine oil, fertilizer, animal feed, and Japanese bacon and steaks.
