Rockport Apprentice Shop
Charles Marshall, Vice Pres. of AT&T, and his wife Millicent Marshall christened the French gig AMITIE at her launching on Rockport Harbor April 30, 1988. AT&T was a major sponsor of the construction of this boat. The 38 ft. craft had 10 rowing stations and was steered by a coxswain in the stern. Three sails could be used. Three of these craft were built in the Rockport Apprenticeshop between 1985 and 1988 from a 200 year old French design. The non-profit wooden boat school operated in Rockport, Maine, from 1982 to 1992. It was founded in Bath, Maine, in 1972. From 1992-1995 it was in Nobleboro and in 1995 moved to Rockland, Maine, where it continues in its 50th year in 2022.
