Rockport Apprentice Shop
A St. Pierre dory was launched May 24, 1986, from The Rockport Apprenticeshop, where it was built by apprentices Byron Keramis of Quichee, Vt., and Brad Stemen of Cleveland, Ohio. The new owner was Andy Shacknov of Boston and Loud's Island, off Bristol, Maine. The dory style was used for fishing in the 1930s on the French island of St. Pierre, off Newfoundland. The non-profit wooden boat school operated in Rockport, Maine, from 1982 to 1992. It was founded in Bath, Maine, in 1972. From 1992-1995 it was in Nobleboro and in 1995 moved to Rockland, Maine, where it continues in its 50th year in 2022.
