Schooner BOWDOIN - - an Arctic explorer - the first to send radio signals from the far North and the first to send colored photos of the Arctic to the National Geographic Society - Built by the Hodgdon Brothers Yard in East Boothbay, Me. in 1921 - Shown here March 18, 1982 are Capt. John Nugent of the MERCANTILE and Fred Nempf, of Bath, Me.with a drill. Capt. Nugent came from N.Y. - summered & sailed in Conn. - came to Me. years ago to sail on STEVEN TABOR with Capt Guild - came back to crew & became a schooner captain.
