School children and family members surrounded Mrs. Robert F. O'Hara and Dorothy M. O'Hara at the christening of the new fishing vessel ROBERT F O"HARA August 7, 1971. The 109 foot steel side trawler was one of several built by Harvey F. Gamage Shipbuilder, Inc., at South Bristol, Maine for Dorothy M. O'Hara,, Inc., associated with Frank J. O'Hara & Sons of Rockland, Maine. Designed by John W. Gilbert Associates of Boston, she had a 24 ft. beam and 12 foot draft, displacing 305 tons. Fish hold was 7,400 cubic feet. Built under the U S Fishing Fleet Improvement Act, it was financially subsidized by the federal government, another first for Gamage.
