Schooner NATHANIAL BOWDITCH

The Schooner NATHANIEL BOWDITCH was built by Hodgdon Brothers at East Boothbay in 1923 and christened LADONA. Later she was renamed JANE DORE, still later JOSEPH W. HAWKINS. Finally as the NATHANIEL BOWDITCH the schooner served the US Coast Guard during World War II as a coastal patrol vessel. Captain Gil Philbrick with partners Dick Klain and Kip Leach bought the vessel in 1975. In this photo she is sailing near Rockland Harbor, her home port.
