Rockport Apprentice Shop
A French gig is under construction at the Rockport Apprenticeshop in 1985. This 38 ft. craft will have 10 rowing stations and will be steered by a coxswain in the stern. Three sails can also be used. Three of these craft were built between 1985 and 1988 from a 200 year old French design. The non-profit wooden boat school operated in Rockport, Maine, from 1982 to 1992. It was founded in Bath, Maine, in 1972. From 1992-1995 it was in Nobleboro and in 1995 moved to Rockland, Maine, where it continues in its 50th year in 2022.
